Data & Power Cables

All RBR loggers and recorders are supplied with a serial data cable that is used for downloading the data from the internal port on the RBR logger to a PC or a Mac.  Sometimes data and power connections are required on the external part of the logger to allow for longer deployments or real time data access.

RBR recognizes that users may not want to pay extra for features that aren't required. Therefore we offer the choice of external data and/or power connectors as an optional extra at the time of initial instrument manufacture. Impulse IE55(w) wet-pluggable are usually used for Single & Twin channel loggers and the XR series. Impulse MCBH are used for the XRX range.

Serial-USB adapter
RBR instruments typically use RS-232 protocol for data download. Since many of the latest computers are no longer equipped for RS-232 input, a USB adapter is necessary. There are many types on the market and some function better than others. We can supply one that has been tested and proven to work with our instruments.

RS-485
RBR instruments typically use RS-232 protocol for data download. This can be successful for cable lengths as much as 200m, at reduced baud rates. Where, longer distances are required, we can include an RS-232 to RS-485 converter module.

Contact RBR for delivery time on custom order cables. Note: there is a practical performance limit on the length of a cable used for RS-232 serial transmission. Typically, RS-485 transmission should be considered for cable lengths in excess of 50m at data rates of 19.2Kbaud and higher.
